The People’s Cinematic Voices

An improvising community choir for silent film

The People’s Cinematic Voices is an open-access community choir, first convened for the June 2024 Silents by the Sea festival in Morecambe. Singers from across Lancashire worked with Guillermo Rozenthuler and Jaka Škapin to create live musical accompaniments to films by Georges Méliès.

The project will return in 2026, leading up to June’s Silents by the Sea at Morecambe Winter Gardens. Experienced singers and complete beginners are equally welcome, and participation is free. Further details will be announced in spring 2026.
