Northern Silents returns to Old Woollen with Buster Keaton’s 1924 classic

The film

Step into the surreal brilliance of Buster Keaton’s Sherlock Jr., a silent‑movie marvel where dreams and reality collide. Keaton plays a shy cinema projectionist who longs to be a detective. Comedy and action meet groundbreaking camera trickery, and the screening will be brought vividly to life with live piano and percussion.

Whether you’re new to silent film or simply love a good laugh, this is a joyful, imaginative escape into the world of classic cinema.

The music

Improvising pianist Jonny Best returns to Old Woollen to perform live. Inspired by Buster Keaton’s spirit and drawing on 1920s–30s jazz and Hollywood film styles, Jonny creates soundtracks that feel immediate, playful, and alive.
